We’ve continued to build a team of top-class research scientists and our capabilities at our research hub in the hi-tech city of Bengaluru.

During the year, we grew the team from 44 to 65, with women making up a quarter of our researchers. Our aim is to continue recruiting scientists from diverse backgrounds and sectors, with our team continuing to expand in the year ahead.

This investment backs our Growth with Purpose commitment to bring new water and clean energy solutions to our customers much faster, something that our colleagues in India are doing with great skill.

It’s largely down to our researchers, working closely with product developers and our customers, that, in 2023, a staggering 56% of our sales in the region were from solutions that are less than five years old.

To further enhance customer collaboration, we’ve added an experience centre at the hub where customers can fully interact with all our solutions, both physically and digitally.

Customers will be able to experience the entire product journey and our complete product offering, handling physical products, understanding our value propositions, and interacting with our solutions through video and virtual reality systems.

We’ve also enhanced our simulation and design capabilities within the hub to achieve a faster time to market and to bolster the support our hub gives to product development teams on the ground – not just in India but elsewhere across our other divisions.

In 2023, for instance, great links have been forged between our Indian research team and product developers in Australia and New Zealand, a connection that will continue to grow. And Bengaluru centre continues to work very closely with our two other research hubs in Paris and Toronto.

We were pleased to gain an important recognition for the quality of research we’re doing at Bengaluru during the year, when our testing and calibration labs achieved accreditation to the ISO17025 standard, verified by the National Accreditation Board. This is the highest level of accreditation in India, recognising our commitment to quality and excellence.

In India our researchers focus on digitalisation and advanced engineering and have developed a growing number of market-leading solutions in recent years, including redesigning our range of ball valves to be 48% lighter, and therefore less carbon intensive, with no loss of performance.

They’ve also developed a small and easy-to-use device to electrofuse pipes and an underground anti-microbial water storage tank with a middle layer made entirely from recycled material.
