Our target to transition all our operations to renewable electricity by 2025 is picking up pace with great progress during the year in Spain, Italy, Switzerland, and Germany, notably thanks to solar panel installations, following on from earlier successes in Poland and the Netherlands.

And now, thanks to a round of negotiations in 2023, we’ve signed a virtual power purchase agreement with Hamburg-based renewable energy supplier Encavis which will help power a large portion of our European operations with renewable electricity from 2025.

The 10-year contract covers the supply of 50 GWh of renewable power a year from Encavis’ 38 MW solar park in Montefiascone, about 100km northwest of Rome, Italy.

The switch to renewables is the main way we plan to meet our Growth with Purpose goal of cutting our Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 75% per ton of production, with over a third of all our operations powered this way by the end of 2023, compared with 22% the year before.

Our Wangs plant in Switzerland will reach that 100% renewable goal thanks to a €600,000 project to install 1,022 solar panels at the site, capable of generating 440,000 KWh of renewable power a year. That equates to 206 tons of carbon saved.

Expansion of our Mannheim plant includes the installation of solar panels with the capacity to supply 80% of the factory’s electricity needs.

Our operations in the Netherlands are ahead of the game, having already achieved 100% renewable power, with a combination of home-grown renewable generation and power supply contracts which guarantee that our electricity comes from wind or solar power sources.
