One of our most exciting European M&A transactions in 2023 saw us acquire Zypho, a leading player in drain water heat recovery technology, cementing a collaboration that started in 2020.

Back then, we began working with this fast-growing Portuguese start-up to help them bring their innovative and highly sustainable heat recovery solution to market in Portugal, Spain and France – and to identify its potential in other markets.

The system captures the outgoing hot wastewater from a shower and uses it to heat the incoming cold water, in the process recycling up 75% of the energy needed to produce hot water, meaning lower energy bills and a significant cut in carbon emissions for our customers.

A passive system using gravity, the solution does not require additional energy. And, thanks to its double layer protection, water running through the system is protected from contamination from bacteria, making it ideal for use in healthcare settings such as hospitals.

Since our relationship with Zypho began, we’ve been working together to bring its technology to a wider market, using our reach across Europe to attract new customers.

The customer response has been strong, and we’re delighted to have launched a collaboration with one of France’s leading hotel companies, the Accor Group.

As part of our Alliance, Accor has started deploying Zypho technology at the Pullman Paris Bercy Hotel, installing it in a first set of trial rooms, with plans to roll it out to all 392 rooms in the coming year. It’s a timely initiative for the hotels group coming soon after the introduction of new French laws encouraging the hospitality sector to cut energy use and become more sustainable.

We’ve also extended the heat recovery range, bringing an exciting new product to market – Zypho® Slim50.

This is an upgraded version of the original solution specially designed for use in smaller spaces. It is well-suited for the renovation market as old properties are brought up to higher environmental standards.
